WEIRTON The Weirton Sanitary Board heard a project update from Ronnie Sheets of Thrasher Engineering Thursday in regards to the replacement of the main distribution pipeline.
Work began two weeks ago at the far end of the project and Monday at the sewage treatment plant on Freedom Way.
Approximately 2,500 feet of pipe has been installed so far by three crews. Next week crews will begin filling the ditch with concrete once they receive approval from the West Virginia Department of Highways.
The board also voted unanimously to allocate up to $10,000 for storm drains bordering the parking lot of the Colliers Way Church of Christ. Landslides caused by surface water run-off have exposed a main pipeline at the bottom of the hill behind the church, and a drainage system is the first step to prevent further slipping.
A possible second stage for the work could involve filling in the sizable hole where the pipe is exposed, but the board plans to address that issue at a future meeting.
