Sheriff's Office looking for suspect in Newell robbery

NEWELL - The Hancock County Sheriff's Department is searching for a suspect following an armed robbery in Newell Tuesday night.

According to information from Hancock County Sheriff Ralph Fletcher, a male subject entered Phillies Quick Stop, located at 106 Washington St., at approximately 7:56 p.m. Tuesday, allegedly produced a firearm and demanded money from the clerk.

The suspect appears to be between 30 and 40 years of age, according to the sheriff's department, stands approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall and was seen wearing a dark brown or green jacket, a baseball cap with possibly the hood of a sweatshirt pulled up, a ski mask and black gloves.

"The subject removed the cash from the drawer and exited the building heading southeast across the parking lot," Fletcher said.

Fletcher said the matter is still under investigation.
