WEIRTON - The Christmas season is officially underway, and the thoughts of many have turned to shopping, spending time with family and decorating their homes.
The decorations, in particular, are the focus in the Weirton Room of the Millsop Community Center as the yearly Christmas Tree Display Contest has made its return.
"It's the sixth-annual Christmas Tree Display and they are more beautiful than ever," organizer Deb Witkowski said.
Several area organizations and businesses have decorating trees, which are now on display in the Weirton Room, and residents can vote for their favorites at a cost of $1 per vote.
Proceeds go to the community center's Legacy Trust Fund, established to assist with various programs and projects at the center.
Business and organizations taking part in this year's contest include the Weirton United Way; the Mary H. Weir Public Library; the Weirton Area Museum and Cultural Center; the Rotary Club of Weirton; the Marland Heights Community Association; the Weirton Woman's Club; the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation; the Millsop Community Center maintenance staff; the City of Weirton; the Hancock County Sheltered Workshop; and the Rotary Club of Weirton Heights.
Trees will remain on display through Jan. 4.
