Oak Glen Middle’s Culture Club to present ‘Small Actors’

NEW CUMBERLAND - The Oak Glen Middle School Culture Club Players will present Stephen Gregg's comedy-drama "Small Actors" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday and 7 p.m. Friday at the middle school.

The cast includes Brooke Brothers, Kayla Gilmore, Brooke Provenzano, Hannah Jacobs, Sierra Dulaney, Connor Blake, Jacob Doughty, Noah Toomey, Mackenzie Mayhew, Krissy Neely, Matthew Turkaly and Ally Brothers.

Senior center announces events

WEIRTON - The Greater Weirton Senior Center will hold an indoor rummage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today through Friday at the center.

The senior center will hold a dance Thursday with Hank Vincent and the Stone Street Station performing. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the band will perform from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Admission is $5.

There were be a New Year's Eve Dance Dec. 31 with the Sands of Time performing. The doors open at 7 p.m., and the band will perform from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The event will include favors, door prizes, a 50/50 drawing, a midnight buffet and New Year toast. Tickets are $15 per person or $25 per couple.

The center will host an Atlantic City trip March 24-27, including motorcoach transportation, lodging and meals. The cost is $235, and $75 is due on reservation.

CASA to hold holiday open house

WELLSBURG - A Child's Place Court-Appointed Special Advocate will hold a holiday open house and vendor sale from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at its office at 720 Charles St.

The open house will include vendors from BeautiControl, Silpada Jewelry, Watkins, Nerium, Scentsy, US Borne Books, Origami Owl and Pampered Chef.

Rhonda Stubbs, the group's executive director, said it is behind in payment for utilities and rent because of funding delays caused by the government shut-down. Those interested in donating toward the expenses may do so at childsplacecasa.com/donate.

Senior center Christmas party set

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Senior Center will hold its Christmas party from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Wellsburg Fire Hall.

There will be music by Not Half Bad, food and door prizes.

A $5 donation is requested. Reservations should be made by calling (304) 527-3410 by Friday. Transportation is available.

Tri-State Writers to meet

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio - The Tri-State Writers Society, led by award-winning author Karen Majoris-Garrison, will hold their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Schiappa Branch Library's large meeting room.

Association holding gospel concert

WHEELING - The Ohio Valley African American Students Association will hold a holiday gospel celebration from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Dec. 14 at Wheeling Jesuit University's Troy Theater.

Those performing include Macedonia Church Men's Choir, Angels of Praise dance team, Candi Gardner, God's Chosen dance team and Voices of Praise.

Refreshments will be available for purchase, and the event will include drawings and door prizes.

Admission is $5. Proceeds benefit the association's awards banquet and scholarship fund.

Pet supplies collected for shelter

WELLSBURG - The Brooke County Public Library and Follansbee Branch Library will be collecting assorted pet supplies, including food, toys and new or used towels and blankets, this month for dogs and cats at the Brooke County Animal Shelter.

Everyone also is invited to join the library's staff and volunteers in making presents for the animals at 5 p.m. Dec. 19 at the library.

Indoor yard sale to end

WELLSBURG - The ongoing indoor yard sale at 810 Charles St. will soon end, and a variety of items, including records, hardback Zane Grey books and other collectible and household items, will be sold at low prices, said Frances Dennison, coordinator.

Proceeds from the sale go to efforts by Dennison and others to provide treats to veterans and others at local nursing homes.

It is open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. For information, call (304) 737-3614.

Dennison and Mary Fillinger, Vivian Ellis and Faye Deuley, all members of Wellsburg Christian Church, have been helping area nursing homes with bingos and cook-outs this year.

Sorority aids autism program

BETHANY - On Nov. 15, members of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority at Bethany College participated in National Philanthropy Day by hosting a Band Together for Autism Speaks initiative.

The chapter set up informational tables in several locations on campus throughout the day and sold blue Autism Speaks wristbands for $1 each, raising more than $150 for their national charity.
