WEIRTON - The Brooke girls basketball team turned it on in the last 11 minutes of the game Thursday night against Weir High to score a 57-51 come-from-behind victory at the Carl Hamill Fieldhouse.
It is the first win of the young season for the Lady Bruins, who were playing their third game in four days.
Weir High took a 12-point lead at 43-31 when senior Alyssa Shingle, who finished with 23 points swished a long three-pointer with three minutes left in the third quarter. She had four from bonus land in the game.

Staffileno took over from there scoring 16 of Brooke's final 26. She finished with a game-high 35 points.
After Shingle's trey, the Lady Bruins went on a 7-2 run to finish the third quarter trailing by 45-38.
"We were down by seven at the end of the third quarter and I just told them that in three minutes let's try to be down by four," said Bruin coach Ryan Scherich. "We got down by two and we still had five minutes to go in the fourth quarter so we met our goal.
"I'm proud of them because playing three games in a row I thought we didn't have our legs with us, but we found a way, gutted it out and won."
With Shingle scoring nine points, the Lady Red Riders outscored Brooke 17-11 in the third period after leading 28-27 at the half, but their shooting went cold in the final period scoring just 6 points.
"There's no question we feel like we gave one away tonight," said Weir High's veteran coach, Bill Smith. "You have to get the ball into the hands of people with the best chance of scoring. We got into a situation there in the fourth quarter where we had people taking shots that preferably I would not have them taking.
"I thought we did a pretty good job of rebounding early and played pretty good defense, too but when we got the big lead we just didn't take care of the basketball."
There were a lot of turnovers in the game by both teams. Brooke turned the ball over 24 times while the Riders had 18 miscues.
"We're about five or six plays from being undefeated," said Scherich. "The two we lost could have gone either way, but that's the most turnovers we've had in a game so far."
Senior Michaela Hinerman drove to the basket for a layup to tie the game at 48-48 with 4:50 left on the clock and then Staffileno scored seven straight points to arm the Lady Bruins with a 55-48 lead. Staffileno nailed five three-pointers in the game with three of them coming at crunch time in the fourth quarter.
Shingle sent a three ball through the hoop for Weir High's final score with two minutes left in the game to cut Brooke's lead to 55-51, but Staffileno retaliated with a layup at the 1:42 mark for the final margin.
Staffileno had a double-double. She led all rebounders with 12 to go along with her 35 points. She also blocked four shots and had two steals.
"She's a leader," Scherich said of his junior star. "She found a way. She found that extra gear and willed herself through it.
"One of the areas where Angela has improved this year is that she's a much better jump shooter so she can go outside and hit threes with anybody. She's also a lot quicker and faster with the ball. She brings that game with her every night."
Hinerman scored eight points to back up Staffileno.
For the Lady Riders, Raegan Stead and Ashlyn Drizake each added nine points. Drizake led the Weir High rebounding with 10.
Weir High plays its next seven games on the road, the first one being Saturday at Linsly. The Lady Bruins return home to host John Marshall next Tuesday.
