Huskies sneak by St. C in OT

CADIZ - Cheyenne Nameth sunk a free throw with eight seconds left in overtime to give Harrison Central a 62-61 win over St. Clairsville Thursday.

Nameth, who finished with five points, made one of two foul shots down the stretch to secure the win. St. Clairsville (3-2) missed two shots as the clock was winding down and the Huskies defense held strong.

For the Huskies (2-2), Katie Ellzy led all scorers with 25 points, while Alexis Yoho had eight points. Kara Dunfee and D.J. Keesey each added nine points.

"We showed a sense of resiliency tonight that I have not seen in this group, getting down 10 and then fighting back is something we have not done before," said relieved Huskies head coach Nick Yourkovich. "I think this was a significant building block for this team in terms of moving forward."

For St. Clairsville, Anna DeFilippo scored 14 points.

Knights run past St. John

TORONTO - Lexie Berger and Lindsay Bodnar each drained three 3-pointers as Toronto rolled over Bellaire St. John, 67-23, on Thursday.

Bodnar finished with 21 points, while Berger added 19. Makayla Baumann chipped in with 11 points for the Red Knights and Malaysia Harrison added nine.

For St. John, Marissa Rose led with 16 points.

Union Local races past Edison

MORRISTOWN - Amanda Swallie scored 15 points to lead the Union Local girls basketball team over Edison, 72-56, on Thursday.

Sophomore Alli Delaney added 10 points for the Jets (2-1) while Corey Medley scored six and Abby Collins had 12.

For Edison (0-4) Katelyn Pollock knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and had 13 points. Kayli Stewart led the Wildcats with 15 points and Abby Fonow added eight points.

Royals split with Cheswick

WEIRTON - The Jefferson County Christian basketball teams split a doubleheader with Cheswick Christian Thursday at the Millsop Center with the girls taking a 24-21 decision and the boys dropping a 40-29 count.

The Lady Royals trailed 16-6 late in the third quarter and finished the game on an 18-5 run. Kassie Lucas led the way with nine points and Bre Brown added eight. Rosarie Scarnecchia's lone bucket put JCCS on top for good at 21-20.

The Lady Royals won their opener, 32-11, Tuesday against the Western Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. Lucas scored 16 and Brown added 14.

Cheswick Christian's Antione Malloy scored a game-high 17 points in the boys game as it outscored the Royals 12-7 in the fourth period.

Chris McGurn and Garrison Mathison each had seven for JCCS. Matt Townswend added six and Christian Brown five.

The Royals defeated WPSD 67-47 on Tuesday with Mathison scoring a game- and career-high 28. McGurn added 10, Nic Marshall eight, Townsend seven and Chris Browns six.
