Oak Glen falls in fourth

NEW MANCHESTER - Josh Smith drained a pair of free throws with 4 seconds left in regulation that lifted John Marshall over Oak Glen on Thursday. The Golden Bears were unable to convert on their last offensive set as time winded down.

Smith finished with 14 points and Tanner Filben led all scorers with 19 points. The lone returning starter for the Monarchs (1-1), Filben drained three 3-pointers.

Brandon Smith led Oak Glen with 17 points, including two 3-pointers.

Vincent Haddox added 10 points and Tyler Click scored seven.

The Golden Bears host East Liverpool on Saturday.

Red Knights cruise past Royals

TORONTO - The Toronto girls basketball team raced to a 24-2 lead after eight minutes and cruised to a 42-16 victory over Jefferson County Christian School Thursday evening at the George Kunzler Memorial Gymnasium.

The Red Knights' Lindsay Bodnar led the way with a game-high 13 points as they raised their record to 3-2.

Kassie Lucas led the Royals (2-2) with six points.

Huskies tame Wildcats

CADIZ - Katie Ellzy scored a game-high 31 points and Shianne Nameth added 15 to lead Harrison Central over Edison on Thursday. The Huskies are riding a four-game winning streak after starting the season with back-to-back losses. Edison dropped to 0-6.

Kayli Stewart led the Wildcats with 18 points, while Katelyn Pollock scored 13 and Lynsey Morrison added 10.

Edison had a 35-34 rebounding advantage and turned the ball over six-less times than the Huskies (21-27).

Magnolia beats Weir

NEW MARTINSVILLE - Magnolia Senior Mallory Chapman and junior Katie Blatt each recorded a double-doubles, combining for 40 points and 20 rebounds, while sophomore Grace Berisford added 15 points as Magnolia broke a 10-10 first quarter deadlock and cruised to a convincing 70-37 victory agianst the Red Riders at Magnolia High School.

Early on the girl making noise was Weir's (0-5) Alyssa Shingle, who scored all 10 of her team's first quarter points.

Magnolia grabbed a huge 39-21 edge off the glass while the Red Riders equaled their rebounding output with 21 turnovers to just seven for Big Blue.
