JOHNSTON, Edward M., 80, of Wintersville, Ohio, died Friday, January 3, 2014, at his home.
He was born in Clarksburg, WV, on March 5, 1933, a son of the late William E. and Geraldine Wright Johnston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Linn Johnston on September 12, 1995; and son, Derek M. Johnston.
Edward served in the Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel where he worked as a roller for 35 years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Carrollton VFW Post 3301, NRA, Bowling Association and Wintersville American Legion Post 557. He was a Cub Scout leader for many years and coached baseball for 40 years. Edward was an avid gardener and loved fishing. He was a devoted father, pappy and family man.
Surviving are his children, Edward R. (Denise) Johnston of Wintersville, OH, Linn L. (Kevin) Clark of Springfield, OH and William D. Johnston of Wintersville, OH; seven grandchildren Amber, Joshua (Jessica), Chad (companion Kacy Brake), Craig, David, Shane and Tara Johnston; four great-grandchildren Landyn, Aidan, Xavier, Cash and one blessing on the way; companion Kay Willson; two sisters Duane (Jerry) Farrington of Circleville, OH, and Mary Mucci of Carrollton, OH, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Monday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where a service will be held Tuesday 10 a.m. with Pastor Carol Smith officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben.
