Need for blood donations continues

PITTSBURGH - Central Blood Bank, the supplier of blood services to more than 40 hospitals in western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia and eastern Ohio, is in need of blood donors to help replenish the local blood supply over the holidays.

A decline in blood donations is typical during the winter months as people become busy with holiday activities and travel.

Patient needs remain steady, however, making it important for people to visit a Central Blood Bank community donor center, fixed site or mobile drive to give blood. To learn more about donating blood, visit centralbloodbank.org.

"We are in need of all blood types to assure that we maintain our blood supply for the hospital patients in our community," said Central Blood Bank spokesperson Tamara Kilgore.

"Donations decline during the holiday season, so we're asking people to help support local patients and respond by giving blood over the next few weeks," Kilgore said.

Central Blood Bank offers 25 conveniently located community donor centers and fixed sites throughout western Pennsylvania and northern West Virginia, she said.

Donors may call to schedule an appointment or visit any blood drive listed online at centralbloodbank.org.

All blood type donors are welcome to help. Those who can't donate are asked to encourage others they know to donate.

To schedule a blood drive or an appointment to donate, or to find the nearest blood donation centers and hours, call (866) 366-6771 or visit centralbloodbank.org.
