RAYLAND - Union Local head girls basketball coach Kelley Hanlon has noticed that her team is getting back to having fun.
Thursday's trip to Buckeye Local High School was more than fun. It was dominating.
The Lady Jets closed the first half on a 14-0 run, opened the second half on a 14-0 run and went on for a convincing 83-44 victory.
"I knew (the run) was a lot, but I didn't realize it was that much," Hanlon said. "The girls just decided to come out and play. That's how I know my team when they play like that."
The Lady Panthers had actually been on a 12-5 run of their own to begin the second quarter and get within 22-19.
However, something clicked at that point for the Lady Jets.

Whether it was on the defensive end, sharing the ball, finishing in transition, shooting from behind the arc or rebounding, the Lady Jets clicked on all cylinders.
"When the girls play like that ... it's fun," Hanlon said. "We stopped turning the ball over and I thought we started rebounding the ball much better."
The Lady Jets, who had five players score in the second quarter, were led by talented senior Cori Medley, who scored eight of her 18 in the second quarter.
Union Local certainly didn't leave its momentum or energy in the lockerroom at the half. Amanda Swallie and Mikayla Patton got going in the third as Union Local outscored the Lady Panthers, 29-7 in the period.
Buckeye Local didn't record its first second-half field goal until there was 1:18 to go in the period.
"We're a lot better team than we showed tonight," said first-year Buckeye Local head coach Tom Figurski. "We've shown the last couple of weeks that we're coming along, but for some reason, we came out flat. We're much better than we displayed tonight, so we've just got to put this one behind us."
The Lady Jets, who only dress seven players, had five reach double figures and another with nine.
Medley, who had 11 rebounds, four blocks and six assists to go along with her scoring, was complemented by Swallie who also had 18 points. Patton added 15, while freshman Kaitlynn Clark-Patterson added 11 points and seven rebounds. Alli Delaney added 10.
Buckeye Local was led by sophomore Becky Zeroski and junior Lauren Swiger, who went for 14 and 10, respectively.
Buckeye Local's road gets no easier. It treks to undefeated Bridgeport for a noon tip on Saturday. The Lady Jets (11-4) head to John Marshall on Monday.
