SKIPPER, James R. 63, of Steubenville, died Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at home. He was born April 9, 1950, in Steubenville, the son of the late Paul Skipper and Mary Patricia Slattery Skipper Monaco.
James was retired from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel, where he was a conductor on the railroad, was a Catholic, and served his country in Merchant Marines during the Vietnam War.
Surviving are two sons, Christopher (Teresa) Skipper of Weirton and Jason R. Harvey of AZ.; one daughter, Tara Stephen and her companion, George Beard of Mingo Junction; one brother, Daniel (Judy) Skipper of Mingo Junction; five grandchildren, Alyssa and Cannon Skipper, Stefani, Courtni and Tommy Stephen, one great- granddaughter, Audree McVey and one on the way.
James was a member of the American Legion Argonne Post 33, PNA, PAC, Weirton Moose, ABATE, VFW, and was an avid Steelers Fan.
Calling hours are Tuesday 5-8 pm at the Mosti Funeral Home, Sunset Chapel, 4435 Sunset Blvd. Steubenville. A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 9:30 am Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Fr. Timothy Huffman, celebrant. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. There will be a vigil service Tuesday at 5 pm.
