WINTERSVILLE - As the old saying goes, two is always better than one.

This statement rings true for Clyde and Kelly Larsen, owners of Hertz and Thrifty Car Rentals.

In November 2012, Hertz Rent-A-Car, the largest rental company nationwide, bought Thrifty Car Rental. However, the companies still ran as two separate entities.

At this time, the Larsens saw an opportunity to not only expand their business but also to benefit the community.

"We sought out to purchase a Hertz franchise," Kelly Larsen stated. "Hertz and Thrifty have different programs, but they can work hand in hand and benefit every rental need."

The Larsens opened the Hertz franchise in August while keeping the Thrifty business. It's the first facility to have a Hertz and Thrifty combination in a local market in the same building.

"This merger gives us a greater opportunity to offer a diverse fleet of automobiles," Kelly Larsen added. "We are able to purchase vehicles through Hertz corporate and have a wide variety of automobile choices. This, in turn, allows us to offer our clients a bigger selection."

The merger also benefits the community because area residents now have one place they can visit to learn of several options for rental needs.

"Thrifty Car Rental offers lower rates but limited miles," Kelly Larsen said. "They also offer small local businesses a corporate rate. Hertz offers a gold card membership that accumulates points to use, a fantastic insurance replace program that deals with all kinds of insurance, unlimited miles, one-way car rentals and preferred vendor status for all insurance companies."

"We now have a No. 1 car rental company in town," Clyde Larsen stat-

ed. "That is pretty impressive for a small town."

In addition, any company that signs up with Hertz for a corporate account will receive benefits for the company and any employee's personal needs.

"We now can offer one-stop shopping and better variety for one's rental needs," Kelly Larsen added. "Our car rental agents can provide information about which company will better suit your rental needs."

The business owners also are proud of its car detailing services.

"When you go on a trip, you can leave your car with us to detail, and when you get home you will have a clean car," Clyde Larsen noted. "We have a car detailing specialist on staff and offer those services to the public."

Hertz and Thrifty can now take care of any rental car need, Kelly Larsen said.

"And, remember that our motto states, 'We will come and pick you up.'"
