WELLSBURG - Many probably remember as children playing the rock, paper, scissors game, often to decide who got a turn first, but visitors to the new hair salon with the same name only have to decide which of its many services to try first.
Rock, Paper, Scissors is in the Wellsburg Business Complex at 1420 Commerce St. (state Route 2), the former site of Bre's Tropical Illusions, and owned and operated by three hairstylists who got their start at Bre's.
They are Michelle Lelles, Kara Delaney and Hiedi Smith. All are Wellsburg natives and graduates of Scott College of Cosmetology.
ONE OF MANY CUTS — The owners of Rock, Paper, Scissors joined officials with the Wellsburg Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon cutting during its grand opening in December. Taking part were, from left, chamber member Maryanne Capp; co-owners Michelle Lelles, Hiedi Smith and Kara Delaney; and Jacie Ridgely, chamber executive director.
Asked about the hair salon's name, Lelles said the rock represents the strength and unity of the trio, who have studied and worked together for some time; paper represents the spreadsheets and documentation involved with all businesses; and of course, there's no question about the role scissors play.
The three are prepared to offer a variety of hairstyles to women, men and children as well as coloring and perms. But the business offers much more than hairstyling. Visitors also may pamper themselves with manicures and pedicures, highlighting their nails with a variety of colors and if they choose, an assortment of nail art.
Those missing their summer tans during these winter months may try any of the salon's five tanning beds or the salon's tan spray booth, Lelles said.
Asked if the three have a particular philosophy about serving customers, Lelles noted sometimes the oldest approach is the best.
"We believe the clients are always right. We want them to walk away satisfied," she said.
Lelles said each month the three plan a Saturday with a special theme, such as rhinestone manicures and pedicures, and they have special plans for a Valentine-themed event for an upcoming Saturday in February to prepare area women for that holiday.
Details will be posted on Rock, Paper, Scissors' Facebook page at RPS4800.
Prospective clients also may call (304) 737-4800 for information about the salon. Susy Wood is the salon's receptionist.
