Weirton Daily Times
Steubenville Big Red senior John Paul Duff, flanked by his parents Kevin and Martha Duff, will continue his academic and athletic careers at Cuyahoga Community College, where he will be a member of the soccer team and play for coach Devan Anderson. He was a first-team all-Eastern District and all-OVAC selection his junior and senior years as a goalkeeper. He was also the OVAC Class 4A Player of the Year and a second-team all-Ohio pick. Duff finished his career in goal 33-16-4 with 22 shutouts. He also doubled his duties as the kicker for Big Red’s football team this year. His sophomore season, Duff had a 1.2 goals against average and 10 shutouts during a 12-5 season, the OVAC runners-up and honorable mention all-Eastern District. Also on hand for the signing were, from left, Big Red soccer coach Greg Bowers, Principal Shawn Crosier and Athletic Director Lynn Meyer. “John Paul is a hard worker in the classroom and on the soccer field,” said Bowers. “He has a strong commitment to and takes extreme pride in being successful. Coaches across the area have always complemented our soccer team for how hard they play. On many occasions the following complement was directed toward John Paul and the toughness he displayed in goal. We are extremely confident that John Paul will be successful moving forward and we wish him the best of luck.”
