WEIRTON - The Weirton United Way will be taking it to the hardwood with a new event for its 2014 campaign.

Set for March 29 and 30, the Weirton United Way Taking it to the Hoop three-on-three basketball tournament will make its debut among the various fundraisers for the local organization.

Michael Hagg, who will be the United Way's 2014 campaign chair, has been organizing the event.

The tournament is scheduled to take place at Weir High School, according to Hagg, with play beginning at 9 a.m. on March 29 and noon on March 30. Teams will play in various age divisions, with participants including anyone from the third grade to age 65.

"You have third grade all the way up to adults," Hagg said. "We're looking to build a good event that involves the youth of our community and benefits the United Way."

Teams can include either three or four players, Hagg explained.

Hancock County Savings Bank is serving as the event sponsor.

"We're really excited to support this event," Bank President Cathy Ferrari said, noting it is a great activity for families. "I think it will hit a lot of the Tri-State Area."

Hagg expressed his appreciation to Hancock County Savings Bank for assisting with the event.

"They're a great community partner and a partner of the United Way," Hagg said.

Registration is $60 per team. Teams registered prior to March 20 will receive a T-shirt. All champion teams will receive a medal at the conclusion of the tournament.
