Club auxiliary holds meeting

WEIRTON - The Tri-State Marine Corps Club Auxiliary held their monthly meeting Feb. 10.

President Joan Spano called the meeting to order and presided over the business session. Chaplain Mary Ann Smith gave the invocation and read scripture. Marcy Spano read the devotions and "Prayers to Soothe Your Soul." The group held special prayers for Gertie Hanlin, George and Lola Tremblay, Scott Dawson, Jean Hanlin, Joan Spano, Kim Damderand, Dorio Francasso, Danny and Carol Lyons, Randy and Holly Horn family, Josi Elliott and Dora Ferrelli.

Vice President Darlene Kemp led the Pledge of Allegiance and called roll. In Carol Lyons' absence, Marcy Spano gave the January secretary's report, which was approved as read. Shirley Brecht read a thank-you note from 20 military members stationed in Afghanistan, as well as notes from Air Force Master Sgt. David M. Lake, stationed in Afghanistan; and servicewoman Heather Manzies, also stationed in Afghanistan. Barboursville Veterans Home staff sent Joan Spano a list of the residents' birthdays.

In Treasurer Maxine Ragan's absence, Marcy Spano gave the financial report, which was approved as read. Members will choose a date to audit the books.

Sunshine Chair Mary Ann Elliott sent get-well cards to Bob Davidson, Shirley Jenkins, Don Toothman, Marianne Cunningham, Duke Horstemeyer and Kathy Jurosko Cork. A sympathy card was sent to George and Lola Tremblay. Joan Spano sent five birthday cards to Barboursville Veterans Home residents for February. Joan Spano, Marcy Spano and Tina Spano created more than 400 Valentine cards to be sent to active-duty military members. In March and April, members will collect healthy snacks for the troops. Members are encouraged to bring them to the next two meetings. The group welcomes donates from the public. The snacks will be sent to the troops through Boatsie's Boxes. Joan Spano sent the auxiliary's adopted veteran Wayne Kemp a Valentine card with a Marine emblem key chain.

The club picnic will Aug. 10 at the New Cumberland park. The auxiliary plans to present Wayne Kemp with an afghan made by Marge Porchiran. Mary Ann Smith won the 50/50 and donated back to the treasury. Shirley Brecht and Marcy Spano served the refreshments. The next meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. March 10. Marcy Spano will serve refreshments.
