Cabin Fever got you down?
The Harrison County 4-H Horse Committee says it has the cure - a Mardi Gras dance it will host on March 1 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at J-Lins, 106 East Main St., Jewett.
Patrons can dance to the music of disc jockey T.J. Arnett while enjoying finger foods, Mardi Gras masks and beads. The committee also will have a silent auction of various items to brighten winter moods.
Tickets are $20 per person, with $15 being tax-deductible. Money raised will go toward the horse committee barn project to replace the dilapidated horse barn at the county fairgrounds.
"This is a great opportunity to have fun and support a good cause," said Laynette Shively, committee vice chair. "We all feel like this winter has taken its toll on everyone, and we thought a Mardi Gras dance was a way to brighten things up," Shively said.
Dress for the event is casual. "We are calling the event Mardi Gras cowboy style," she said.
One lucky ticket holder will win a door prize of two VIP tickets to his or her choice of a concert at the Ohio State Fair, a $25 gift certificate for dinner at Bowtie's Restaurant at the Ramada Inn, and an overnight stay at the Ramada Inn just a few exits from the state fairgrounds.
State Fair Board Commissioner and Horse Committee Chair Sherri VanTassel said, "By the night of the dance, I will be able to release the names of the concerts that will be included in the choice - the one that has already been publicly released is Lady Antebellum, but we still have got some great names to announce." The door prize is valued at more than $250.
Tickets are available at the Harrison County Extension office (740) 942-8823; at J-Lin's in Jewett; from Shively at (740) 922-1182); and from VanTassel at (740) 546-4706.
