Park defeats Brooke
WHEELING - The Wheeling Park boys basketball team outscored Brooke 41-21 during the middle two quarters en route to a 73-60 home win on Saturday.
Russell Schwertfeger led the Bruins with 25 points. Anthony Barnhart added 10 and Thomas Cole nine.
Brooke visits Oak Glen on Thursday.

Tri-State softball registration set
WINTERSVILLE - The Tri-State Girls Softball League has scheduled registration for the coming season.
Sign-ups will be conducted in the cafeteria of Wintervsille Elementary School on the following dates at the following times: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 14 and March 21 and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on March 15 and March 22.
FUS men's lacrosse wins
DEFIANCE, Ohio - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's lacrosse team began its season by smacking host Defiance College, 12-3, on Satruday.
"The good news and bad news about that is that we couldn't practice with a full field but our short field game was really good," Barons head coach Pete Rosaschi said. "So our passing did very well."
Goals by Luke Gilman, William Erskine and Paul Modzelewski gave FUS a 3-0 lead at halftime. A 6-0 third quarter gave the Barons a 9-0 cushion entering the final period.
"I feel awesome," Rosaschi said. "I am really, really proud of our guys and what they went through and what they did."
Gilman finished with three goals and three assists. Freshman goalkeeper Jonah Soucy aved 13 shots.
"Our defensive end was phenomenal," Rosaschi said. "We shut them out for three periods, which is pretty much unheard of in lacrosse."
FUS men's hoops loses
STEUBENVILLE - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's basketball team finished its season with an 84-62 home loss to Pitt-Bradford.
Junior Caleb Knorr finished with five points, five rebounds and three blocks for FUS (6-17, 5-13).
"Caleb's heart and desire were absolutely fantastic," head coach John Lamanna said. "I was so proud of him and how hard he played. He had his best game of the year."
FUS junior Moses Sullivan scored 19 points.
FUS women win
STEUBENVILLE - The Franciscan University of Steubenville women's basketball team finished the season 5-19 with a 64-58 victory over visiting Pitt-Bradford Saturday.
"I'm just so excited we won it," Lady Barons head coach Suzy Delaney said about ending the season on a high note. "We had a huge stretch there of losses and I'm just so thrilled to have this game and win it for Helen (lone senior Helen Raines)."
Katie Rhodes' 13 points gave the Lady Barons a 33-30 lead at the half.
Iliana Gonzalez had a game-high 17 points for FUS. Lacey Huck and Dani Link each finished with 14 points.
It ended a 12-game losing streak.
The game was close late, but Raines hit two big free throws with 20 seconds left to give FUS a two-score lead.
FUS men's tennis wins
BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's tennis team its conference season with a 9-0 win at D'Youville College.
"It's a great first match to see how cohesive we are as a team," head coach Jeremy Ellis said. "Each player really stood up ready to play."
With the exception of Kyle Stickney, the Barons roster is made up of returning players from their NCAA tournament qualifying team last year.
With a precarious start to his singles match sophomore Zack Quiza was the only team member to take his match into three sets, but eventually won 0-6, 6-1, 6-3.
"Our goal is to go 6-0 in conference again and this is one down five more to go," Ellis said.
FUS visits Malone at noon on Friday.
