CLERMONT, Fla. - The Franciscan University of Steubenville softball began its season with a doubleheader loss to Westfield State, 24-2, and to Transylvania University, 8-0.
"Losing 24-2 is not something that you overcome easily going into a game right after, but the girls made drastic improvements and were definitely much more competitive and cohesive as a team in the second game," head coach Jennifer Parker said.
Serra Alongi and Ashley Ruttencutter were the Barons' pitchers.
"Serra started our first game and pitched really well the first couple innings," Parker said. "When she started to struggle, Ashley finished off the game and pitched the second. She's brand new to pitching for us and she did a phenomenal job."
The Lady Barons take on Monmouth College and the University of Northwestern today.
