LOWRIE, Mr. Arthur F., Jr., 79, of Fombell, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at 11:54 a.m., in his residence with his family at his side.
Mr. Lowrie was born on Nov. 16, 1934, in Manchester, Pittsburgh, PA, to the late Arthur F. Lowrie, Sr. and Catherine Ubinger Lowrie.
He graduated from the North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh with the class of 1953 and was a member of the Holy Redeemer Parish. He was employed by the James Lowrie and Son's Funeral Home, a family business, until it closed after 90 years in existence. He then spent 30 years at the J&L Steel Pittsburgh Works until his retirement, where he worked as a sheeter.
Art also served in the Pennsylvania National Guard from May 4, 1957, until his discharge on March 28, 1960. He belonged to the Antique Classic Boat Society, the Century Boat Club, the Conneaut Lake Historical Society, the Ellwood City Historical Society, and Historic Harmony, Inc.
He was a volunteer for the Portersville Steam Show and the Butler County Meals on Wheels for many years. Art also was a member of the Brown's Country Kitchen Breakfast Club. He enjoyed his garden, his boat, and spending time at Conneaut Lake.
Mr. Lowrie is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, the former Joanne Griffin formerly of Steubenville, OH; his two sons, Arthur F. (Mary) Lowrie III of Ellwood City, and John E. Lowrie of Tionesta, and his daughter, Catherine M. (Rogelio) Choy of Jupiter, FL; his three grandchildren, Armand, Stefan, and Francesca Choy; two step-granddaughters, Rachel Weber of Clearwater, FL and Erica (Mike) Boehning of Koppel; and a step-great-granddaughter, Abigale Boehning. He is also survived by his two brothers, James (Barbara) Lowrie of Fairfield, PA, and Joseph (Barbara) Lowrie of Corsica, PA; three sisters, Catherine Havko of McKees Rocks, Pa, Mary Miklos of Bellvue, Pa, and Anne (Ronald) Koller, of Coraoplis, Pa; plus numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Mr. Lowrie was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Edwin Lowrie in 1943; and three sisters, Clare Harold in December of 2011, Colette Harold in February of 2012 and her twin in December of 1926.
Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1-8 p.m. and on Sunday from 1-8 p,m, in the Samuel Teolis Funeral Home, Inc., 309 Spring Ave., Ellwood City, Pa 16117. A Vigil Service will be held on Sunday at 8 p.m. with Father Mark Thomas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. in the St. Peter's Church in Steubenville, OH with Father Jonas Shell officiating.
Interment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
