DENOON HONORED: DeNoon Lumber of Bergholz has been named Ohio Logger of the Year, an award given yearly in conjunction with the Ohio Forestry Association's annual meeting held in Columbus.
Ryan Redoutey, president of the Ohio Logging Standard Council, presented the award to Bill DeNoon Jr., and DeNoon employees Jeremy Bernhart and Clint Carpenter.
DeNoon Lumber Co. was started by William DeNoon Sr. in 1963 in Bergholz with three employees. During the course of 50 years, the company has grown to employ more than 120 people. A Clayco dry kiln was added in 1989, and the most recent addition is a retail shop that includes hardwood flooring, paneling, moulding, doors and more. The company ships all over the world daily.
Bill DeNoon Sr. died in August 2012.
Bill DeNoon Jr. facilitated the organization of the Steel Valley Loggers Chapter in cooperation with the Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District in 2000. Through his leadership, the chapter has coordinated field days for the public, best management practice training for loggers, landowners and township trustees, supported local organizations and sponsored students to attend Ohio Forestry and Wildlife Conservation Camp.
