Creek boosters to hold event
WINTERSVILLE?- The Indian Creek Athletic Boosters will host a Night at the Races Saturday at St. Florian Hall.
The doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the poker tournament at 6 p.m. and races at 7 p.m.
The $10 admission includes food and drink.
The cost is $60 for the tournament admission with a $50 buy-in or add-on.
FUS women's LAX loses
BEREA, Ohio - The Franciscan University of Steubenville women's lacrosse team dropped a 20-4 decision at Baldwin Wallace University on Wednesday.
"We played Baldwin Wallace last year and we have been watching them this year," head coach Maura Conant said. "They have improved by leaps and bounds. I knew it was going to be tough and that we would want to use this as a learning opportunity but I would have liked it to be a bit better."
Tracy McClelland scored a goal for FUS to tie the score at 1 and then the hosts scored the next 14 goals for a 15-1 lead at the half.
Lauren Noce scored twice and Magdalena Munoz once for the Barons (1-6) in the second half. Goalie Savannah Ruhe had 20 saves.
FUS meets Capital University at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Bethany College.
Barons men's LAX loses
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's lacrosse team lost 24-3 at John Carroll University Wednesday.
Luke Gilman had two of the three Barons' goals.
"This is a very well coached team and well-disciplined team," head coach Pete Rosaschi said. "Our guys did a great job against them today. I think we need to get more disciplined, and watch our penalties. It's just learning the basic knowledge of a game, and being on the field is the best way to learn."
The Barons take on Capital University at 3 p.m. Saturday at Bethany College.
SUA seeking umpires
STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Umpires Association is looking for new officials for the upcoming summer season.
Due to the increase in business, the SUA is seeking men and women who may be interested in officiating baseball and softball from late April through mid-July. The association will accept individuals 15 years of age or older.
