Margaret Manson Weir pool donations

March 28, 2014
Weirton Daily Times
Donations have arrived recently from Columbus, Washington, D.C., Illinois, even as far as California to help save the Margaret Manson Weir Memorial Pool at Marland Heights Park. From left, Doug Jackson, Iris Himmelrick and Renee Lemal of the Marland Heights Community Association announced the donations Thursday. “There’s been a building momentum since spring is arriving. We’re grateful for the growing interest in our cause and fundraising events,” Jackson said. MHCA members have planned a Quarter Auction to benefit the Marland Heights Save the Pool Fund. The auction is set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Millsop Community Center in Weirton. Doors open at noon, and admission costs $5. More than 20 vendors are expected to participate, and the Quarter Auction will also include food, beverages, a Chinese auction and a 50/50 drawing. Preliminary clean-up and work to prepare the pool for renovations will begin April 5, weather permitting. Volunteers are welcome to join in on the effort. Anyone interested in contributing to the Save the Pool Fund can send their tax-deductible donation to: Marland Heights Community Association, 3951 Palisades Drive, Weirton WV 26062 or contact the MHCA via Facebook. -- Shae Dalrymple
