VUCIC, John, 88, of Weirton, passed away Friday, April 4, 2014, in the Weirton Medical Center.
Born November 25, 1925, in Weirton, he was a son of the late Anthony and Helen Magdic Vucic. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Bartolovich Vucic, on October 25, 2010; infant brother and sister, Emil and Julie Vucic.
John retired after over 50 years of service, as a union bricklayer, with the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craft workers. He built his own home, and the home of his sister, along with many landmarks in Weirton, including the City Building and the Weirton Medical Center. His home was immaculate, and he took great pride in sculpting his shrubs and bushes to perfection.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving aboard the U.S. Schuykill during World War II. John enjoyed attending his Navy reunions, dancing and watching sports, especially his Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.
He was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Elks Lodge 1801, Moose Lodge 688, CFU, and a Life Member of the International Union of Bricklayers & Allied Craft Workers.
John is survived by his sisters, Vera McElwain and her husband, Jack of Weirton, and Ann Snyder of Little Rock, Arkansas; his beloved nieces, Rita, Maureen, Mary and Carol, along with other nieces, nephews great nieces and nephews.
John wishes were to be cremated by the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, Weirton, WV. A private family mass will be celebrated at a later date.
