RICHMOND - Brooke's Kaylee Kuchinski hurled a gem and the Bruins offense connected for 10 runs on 10 hits as they rolled to a 10-0 victory at Edison on Wednesday.
The Bruins racked up nine runs over the first four innings before the Edison defense tightened to give up just one more the rest of the way. That output was more than enough for Kuchinski who struck out five and gave up just four hits to pick up the complete game win.
"I'm Happy with the way we played overall," said Brooke head coach Mike Wagner. "Of course there's still room for improvement. On the base paths we did some things that need corrected, but we did hit the ball, we did make plays in the field, and we got a great outing from Kaylee.
"Overall we're happy about today."
Simala brought the big bat for the Bruins with three singles and a second-inning home run. Cassondra Camilletti added a pair of doubles and a single.
Michaela Hinerman and Simala each crossed home plate three times for Brooke
Charli McConnell had a pair of singles for the Wildcats. Edison committed four errors on the day.
"The whole thing comes down to we have to play ball games," said Edison head coach Spencer Bendle. "This is only the second game we've got to play, and as you can see we're not used to playing out there on the dirt. We've been in the gym for a lot of time, and we're just not making plays defensively. I thought before the season, and I still think so, that defense will be our strong suit, but if you look at our two games it's been the opposite.
"I think we'll get things turned around the more we play. It's a matter of us getting some work in, getting some at bats, and making some plays in game situations. We'll get this thing straightened out."
