Hancock County Sheriff’s Detective Matthew Harvey accepts an award Thursday from Chester VFW Post 6450 Commander David Ash naming him 2014 West Virginia Law Enforcement Officer of the Year. To qualify for the statewide honor, Harvey first was named officer of the year for VFW District 1, which covers the Northern Panhandle. He was nominated by Sheriff Ralph Fletcher and Chief Deputy Art Watson. -- Stephen Huba
