Bonivere A. "Bonnie" Haught, 88, of Toronto, OH, formerly of Wellsville, OH, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH, following a brief illness.
She was born October 19, 1925, in E. Liverpool, OH, daughter of the late William Edgar and Alice Pearl Means Peterson.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph William "Bud" Haught; sisters, Ruth Betty Coie and Eva Peterson; and her brother, T.L. "Pete" Peterson.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Warren) Wilson of Toronto; two granddaughters, Alyson Colledge of Wellsville, OH, and Cortney (Helker) Silva of Blacklick, OH; and two great-granddaughters, Aryn Nicole Colledge-Ice of Wellsville and Camila Ellen Silva of Blacklick.
Following her graduation from East Liverpool High School, Bonnie studied nursing during World War II at East Liverpool City Hospital where she joined the Nurse Cadet Corps and earned her registered nurse's degree.
After working a short time in the nursery at City Hospital, Bonnie traded nursing for marriage and motherhood, embarking on her life's "great adventure" by eloping with her returning hero soldier, "Buddie." For most of their married years, Bonnie and her husband were active members of the Beaver County, PA, Rock and Mineral Society and traveled as "Rock Hounds" to many places throughout the U.S. and Canada.
Bonnie was known for her strong faith, her kindness and compassion, and her gentle ways. She was quick to praise, slow to judge, and generous to others. She loved Jesus, family, friends and country and always had a special spot in her heart for animals.
Bonnie enjoyed writing poetry and in her later years also took up painting. Many friends and family members were blessed to receive one of her poetic compositions or perhaps even a painted canvas to mark a special occasion or maybe just because she loved them and was thinking of them.
Family visitation will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014, from 4-6 p.m. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, OH, with memorial service to follow at 6 p.m. conducted by Pastor Randy Sells.
A private burial will take place at Columbiana County Memorial Park in Calcutta, OH.
Memorial donations may be made to: Maranatha Chapel, 16980 Annesley Rd., East Liverpool, OH 43920; Colonial Baptist Church, 201 Gumps Ln, Wintersville, OH 43953; or the veteran's organization of your choice.
Bonnie's family also wishes to extend a special "thank you" to the staff of Magnolia Manor in Wintersville, OH, for their kindness and care.
