NEW MANCHESTER - Organizers of New Manchester's annual Fourth of July parade say they need the public's help to pull it off this year.
This year's parade, which is scheduled for 7 p.m. July 4, has a theme of "Honoring People Who Died Fighting for Us." The theme was selected from entries submitted by fourth-graders at New Manchester Elementary School.
Pandie Allison, of the New Manchester Parade Committee, said organizers are especially in need of monetary donations for the parade, as well as donations of American flags and ribbons to decorate the area.
"Our funds are depleted, and we are asking for your support," according to the committee's fundraising letter.
To make a monetary donation, send it to: New Manchester Civic Association/Parade Committee, P.O. Box 125, New Manchester, WV 26047.
Also this year, the committee will recognize the top three essays submitted by students and the top parade entries. The top finishers of the essay contest are Nick Truax, first place; and Brooklyn Watts and Katie Zoellers, second place.
A drawing for a parade King and Queen is held each year, and ballots currently are available at the New Manchester post office.
The committee also is taking nominations for a grand marshal based on civic and military accomplishments.
Parade line-up and registration is at 6 p.m. July 4.
