Chester VFD planning celebration

Deshler Amusements Inc. employees Jeramey Heath, left, and Matt Edgel push the Hillbilly Express toy train into place Monday afternoon in preparation for the start of the Chester Volunteer Fire Department 100th Anniversary Celebration. The old-time street fair, which marks the fire department's centennial, opens at 5 p.m. today and runs through Saturday. Hours are 5-11 p.m. weekdays and 1-11 p.m. Saturday. The Fourth Street festival closes with a parade at 5 p.m. Saturday and a fireworks show at 10 p.m. Saturday. In addition to rides, there will be games, food vendors and nightly entertainment. Ride wristbands are $10 each. To enter a float in the parade, call the fire department at 304-387-1690 and leave a message. -- Stephen Huba
