Weir High cross country to start
WEIRTON - Any girl or boy in grades 9-12 interested in running cross country for Weir High this fall should report to the high school track at 8 a.m. Monday. Practice will last until 10 a.m. All candidates should wear appropriate running attire and have their completed physical form with them.

Big Red to hold golf tryouts
STEUBENVILLE - Any student interested in trying out for the Steubenville Big Red golf team should report to Blackmoor Golf Course at 8 a.m. on Friday.
Candidates need to make sure they have an updated physical and insurance before they will be permitted to participate.
Candidates should bring their clubs, shoes, etc., and be prepared to practice. Proper attire required.

Red Riders to sell tickets
WEIRTON - Weir High will sell football tickets from 9:30 a.m. to noon and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 11 and from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 12-15 at the high school. Current season tickets will be held until Aug. 18.
Cost of the four-game package is $20.
Also being sold is a 10-event adult ticket strip for $50 that may be used an any Weir varsity athletic event during the school year.
A student pass will be sold for $50 and that will be good for any home athletic event for the school year. For information, call the athletic office at (304) 748-7600, ext. 158.
Riders to hold meet the team
WEIRTON - Weir High will hold a football steak fry and season kickoff at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Serbian picnic grounds. It will include meeting the football team. Cost is $15 for a steak dinner and $5 for a hot dog meal.
All Red Riders and Little Steelers football players are free.

Panthers to start volleyball
RAYLAND - Buckeye Local junior high volleyball practice will begin on Aug. 11 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the junior high gym. All players must have a physical and drug testing completed before being allowed to participate.
Marland Heights 5K set
WEIRTON - The Marland Heights 5-K Classic, hosted by the Weirton Board of Parks and Recreation, will be run along the city streets on Marland Heights on Aug. 15.
The event will feature a two-mile walk and youth races for children 12 and under. A special high school team points challenge will be contested. Registration forms are now available at the Millsop Community Center and online at mcc-weir.tripod.com.
The cost to enter is $14 in advance for the adult races ($10 for teens) and $2 for youth fun run participants. Race T-shirts will be given to the first 80 participants for the major races and walk. Following the race, there will be a special awards ceremony and cookout for all participants and event sponsors.
Central scramble on Saturday
EAST SPRINGFIELD - The annual Catholic Central Athletic Boosters golf scramble fundraiser will be an 8 a.m. shotgun Saturday at Spring Hills Golf Course. Cost is $200 per foursome. For information, contact Brian Moffat at (740) 632-5750.
Edison offering senior passes
RICHMOND - Senior citizen passes for Edison High School athletic events will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at no charge starting Aug. 11 at the high school main office to those who reside inside the district. Edison to sell tickets
RICHMOND - Edison football season tickets and senior citizen passes will be on sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 11-15 in the athletic office. It will be renewals only Aug. 11-12, new seat holders Aug. 13-14 and exchanges Aug. 15.
Season tickets will consist of four tickets at $32 a seat. The first home game of the season against Oak Glen will be played at 4 p.m. Aug. 30 at Weir High. The game will be sold as a separate ticket and includes a full day of events.
Football ads are due by Friday. Ads should be print ready. Game balls are $50.

Big Red Boosters to meet
STEUBENVILLE - The Big Red Boosters club will meet Monday at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the high school conference room.
All are welcome. The boosters club will also have a table at the preseason football ticket sales where memberships, helmet drawing tickets, NFL fundraiser tickets, and preorder of 3x5 stadium flags can be purchased.
