BAKER, Alfred Garland, 88, of Follansbee, WV, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at Weirton Medical Center.
He was born on March 13, 1926, in Salem, WV, a son of the late Ward and Lania (Davis) Baker.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Wilda Mae (Garrison) Baker; his daughter, Sandra Lee Baker in 1989; three brothers, Algia, Warren Baker, and Gale Baker; and three sisters, Ruby Porter, Betty Hayes, and Luetta Grimm.
He attended Weir High School after which he served his country in the Army during World War II in occupied Germany.
Alfred retired after 33 years from National Steel where he was a lift truck operator and later retired after 10 years from Brooke County Schools where he was a bus driver.
He was a member of the Weirton Heights Free Methodist Church, the Weirton Steel 25-year club and the Weirton Heights Volunteer Fire Department.
One of his many attributes was his generosity and kind and loving spirit that his family and friends will deeply miss.
Alfred is survived by two brothers, Drexall (Patty) Baker, Tampa, FL; Joe (Jerry) Baker, Chester, WV; two sisters, Barbara Saad, Estero, FL; and Virginia (Walter) Jackson, Fort Myers, FL; one sister-in-law, Jan (Gary) Lough, New Cumberland, WV; several nieces and nephews; special friend, Gary Kohen of Follansbee, WV.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 24th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and again on Monday, Aug. 25th from noon until time of his funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Mullenbach Funeral Home, 669 Main St., Follansbee, WV with Pastor Tim Colvin, officiating.
Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Weirton, WV.
Full military honors will be conducted by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
