Darold L. "Cotton" Sutphin, 92, of Brilliant, Ohio passed away Sunday, August 24, 2014, at the Gables Care Center in Hopedale, Ohio.
He was born May 29, 1922, in Radford, VA, a son of the late David W. and Minnie Mae (Reaves) Sutphin.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis (Risden) Sutphin; a son, Gary P. Sutphin; and two brothers, James and David Sutphin.
Cotton was retired from the Ironworkers Local 549 out of Wheeling, WV, where he was the oldest living member, having recently received his 70-year pin. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Cotton was Presbyterian by faith; he enjoyed walking; and was a jack of all trades, with a talent for construction work and fixing things.
Surviving are two sons, Darold "Kirby" Sutphin and Scott (Kelly) Sutphin, both of Brilliant; a daughter, Sandy Taylor and her companion, Melvin Linn of Grove City, OH; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Sutphin of Brilliant; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, JoAnn Sutphin of Jonesboro, TN.
Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and also on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of his funeral services at 11 a.m. with Dr. Marc R. Tinstman, Minister, officiating.
Interment will follow at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville, Ohio, with military honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad.
