New coffee shop opens up in Follansbee

NEW ADDITION — The Follansbee Chamber of Commerce welcomed the new owners of the Grind, a new coffee shop, and Mindset 2 Wellness Spa & Fitness to the Bluewave Center at 1400 Main St. -- Warren Scott

FOLLANSBEE — Area residents looking for a quick pick me up or a chance to relax can step into the Grind, a new coffee shop with a drive-up window at 1400 Main Street.

The coffee shop has been opened at the south end of the Bluewave Center by Lynette Carte and Dawn Fischer and includes a drive-up window for those on the go and a modern, comfortable seating area inside for those looking for a break from their routine.

Open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, the shop offers a variety of hot and cold beverages and sandwiches and other food for breakfast and lunch.

Available in 12 ounces or 16 ounces, its hot drinks include Americano, cappuccino, latte, mocha, matcha latte, chai latte and hot chocolate.

There’s also hot tea and a 2-ounce espresso shot.

Cold drinks are available in the same portions and include iced coffee, iced latte, iced mocha, iced chai latte and iced matcha latte.

Customers can add an extra shot of espresso, syrup or almond or oat milk for a small charge.

Beans for the caffeinated beverages are supplied by La Prima of Pittsburgh, who sent representatives to teach the shop’s staff how to properly prepare the drinks using their product.

The Grind offers breakfast sandwiches, avocado toast, bagels or Rustik Rollz pastries for breakfast and various lunch items.

In addition to assorted salads, fruit and charcuterie cups, the staff at the Grind has served up from its kitchen such lunch entrees as a turkey bacon wrap, Italian wrap and occasional favorites like cabbage rolls.

“Our creamed turkey was a huge success last week,” said Fischer, who noted it sold out fast and next time they will prepare extra to meet the great demand.

Announcements of such special entrees may be found at the shop’s Facebook page at The Grind Follansbee.

For remote orders, customers can download the Grind app from Toast Local.

Fischer said the Grind plans to offer delivery through DoorDash.

The Grind is overseen by Hunter Wees, manager, and Marcey Lish, assistant manager, who are among about 10 employed through the coffee shop and Mindset 2 Wellness Spa & Fitness, which now are owned by Carte and Fischer.

A licensed therapist, Carte continues to offer counseling aimed at helping individuals draw on their strengths to deal with anxiety, depression, grief and other issues.

She noted the scope of Mindset 2 Wellness has expanded to include the physical as well as the emotional with the acquisition of a gym and its weights and other exercise equipment.

The spa offers massage, infrared and steam saunas, a float suite and other facilities. Yoga sessions and other activities also are offered.

Carte added the facility is available for private parties.

Information about Mindset 2 Wellness Fitness and Mindset 2 Wellness Spa can be found on their respective Facebook pages.

Joining members of the Follansbee Chamber of Commerce in greeting guests were members of the Ewusiak family, who own the building.

Joey Ewusiak noted he, his father, Scott, and brother, Tyler, have worked to renovate the former Follansbee Middle School for use by various businesses.

With new wall paneling and flooring, the building is occupied by Empire Diversified Energy on the top floor and several locally owned businesses on the middle floor.

A ramp leads visitors into the Grind and Mindset 2 Wellness Spa & Fitness on the bottom floor.
