Funseekers Club talks Christmas plans

STEUBENVILLE — Members of the Funseeker’s Club held their Nov. 6 meeting at the Breakfast Club, with President Cathy DiBenedetto calling the meeting to order. She recognized those having a November birthday or anniversary and introduced Joann Bugin, who led in the blessing, pledge and singing of “God Bless America.”

Members were asked to remember Christine Sklenar in their prayers, as her son, Timmy, is at UPMC Shadyside battling leukemia. Following announcements, dinner was served to the 40 members and bingo was played. Winners were Judy Bickler, Barbara Jean Losey and John Balzano. Reports were read and approved by the secretary and treasurer. DiBenedetto said signup sheets are available to volunteer for purchasing door prizes during 2025-26. The club reimburses up to $100 a month for prizes purchased, payable upon receipt.

Donna Balzano, Roberta Antinone and Rose Chappano volunteered to help plan December’s meeting and holiday party on Dec. 4 at Undo’s in Weirton. DiBenedetto stated members should wear a holiday shirt. Musical entertainment will be provided by Dave Watkins. The club will support the Tri-State Marines’ Toys for Tikes event, with members being asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or game for children of all ages. Gifts will be distributed to children in Brooke, Hancock and Jefferson counties. Marines will be on hand to accept the donations.

The club recognized Chuck Bugin, John Balzano and Ray Dalfonso for their service with the military in honor of Veterans Day. Members discussed the January meeting, noting it falls on New Year’s Day. A vote resulted in canceling the meeting. Tour director Regina Truax reviewed this year’s remaining trips, noting a schedule for next year’s trips will be available at the February meeting. Karen Krause won the 50/50 drawing. Marilyn Izzy, DiBenedetto, Carl Truax, Joann Llewellyn, Bugin, Antinone, Deanne Starr and Krause won door prizes.
