CECELIA HUMIENNY

Sissy was the oldest daughter of John and Wanda’s ten children and embraced the role of “big sister” with love and dedication. She was a kind and generous person, always thinking of others. Sissy cherished her large family, especially during birthday and Christmas celebrations. She enjoyed organizing extended family picnics and gatherings with the Humienny, Miecz kowski, Sobolewski, Harasick, and Kowick families.

Sissy attended St. Stanislaus Church and grade school, and graduated from Steubenville Catholic Central High School (1968). She went on to earn a B.A. in English and Education from the College of Steubenville in 1972. Sissy worked at St. John Medical Center (SJMC) throughout high school and college as a nurse’s aide and later taught nursing assistant classes.

Sissy began working at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in 1974 when the consent decree provided women equal opportunities in the workplace. Sissy held various positions throughout the mill but considered her inspection job at the #4 mill in Mingo Junction during the 1980s to be her home. She was an active union member of Local 1190.

In 1986, Sissy moved to Las Vegas, beginning a new career as a Bingo Agent and Supervisor. She loved her work at Binion’s Horseshoe, Palace Station, and Suncoast Hotel & Casino, where she found the bingo rooms to be a friendly and personal experience. She met thousands of locals, tourists, and co-workers, forming many friendships over the years. Sissy was a member of Guardian Angel Cathedral in Las Vegas, Nevada, and attended Triumph of the Cross Parish (Holy Rosary) in Steubenville. During her 33 years in Las Vegas, she developed a passion for keno and slot machines, much to the concern of her family. Sissy returned to Steubenville in 2019 to be closer to her family.

Sissy is survived by her five brothers: Josh (Candy) Humienny, Richard (Jane) Humienny, James (Dianne) Humienny, Gregory (Joanie) Humienny, and Christopher (Patty) Humienny, all of Steubenville, along with her sister-in-law, Sharon Humienny. She is also survived by her three sisters: Jeanne (David) Clarke of Strongsville, OH, Rita (Mark) Newcomer of McComb, OH, and Kathleen (James) Coppa of South Bend, IN. Additionally, she leaves behind a cherished legacy of nieces and nephews: Dustin- Pat, Kristin-Ryan, Ray-Angela, Lindsay, Kerri-Johan, Brian- Ingrid, Pat-Rachelle, Nick-Tracy, Matt- Kayla, Adam, Jeff, Michael, Stacey- Aaron, John Mike, Erin, Ryan-Janette, Scott-Crismary, Jason- Caitlin, Stephanie- Nate, Devon-Jake, and twenty great-nieces and nephews. Sissy’s last message to her family encapsulates her loving spirit and faith: “I love you all. Pray for me, and I will pray for you.”

At Sissy’s request, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024. The Rosary will begin at 11:30 AM, followed by Mass at 12:00 PM at Triumph of the Cross Parish (Holy Rosary), Steubenville, OH.
